Wentworth Wooden Jigsaw Puzzles
A British Classic
The Wentworth Wooden Jigsaw Company was founded in 1994 by Kevin Wentworth Preston, in Wiltshire,England. Wentworth is at the cutting edge of jigsaw manufacturing by using state-of-the-art laser technology. The company produces over 150,000 premium quality puzzles every year that are sold worldwide in gift shops, museums, galleries and online. Wentworth jigsaws represent the very best of British materials and craftsmanship.
Wentworth puzzle pieces are uniquely shaped and the designs are first drawn by hand. Typically no two puzzle pieces are the same, the edge and corner pieces can be fiendish and you should not be surprised to discover straight edges in the middle of the puzzle either. When you are down to the last three pieces, you may still wonder what goes where and whether you have all the pieces you need!
Wentworth puzzles follow the Victorian puzzle-making tradition with their famous "whimsy" pieces that are intricate and artistically designed puzzle shapes that reflect the image theme. They can also be shaped like letters and spell a greeting such as "Merry Christmas", "Happy Birthday", "Happy Anniversary", etc. Wentworth whimsies are always a delightful surprise and they make a great conversation piece.
The World of Wentworth Puzzles
Wentworth jigsaws are available in many different sizes:
approximately 40, 50, 75, 100, 140, 200, 220, 250, 320,425, 500, 750, 1000 and 1500 pieces.
The 40 piece micro puzzle is smaller than a postcard (5"x 3 1/2"), and as far as I know is unique to Wentworth. Do not be fooled by the size and think that you will not find this a challenge! This is a perfect size for a cup of tea or to wind down before bedtime. Not too little, not too much, just right. The ultimate Goldilocks puzzle... The largest Wentworth puzzle has 1500 pieces and measures 32" x 22 1/2".
Most Wentworth jigsaws are rectangular, but there are circular and intricately shaped puzzles as well. The latter ones are especially challenging as the edge pieces are anything but straight and you do not have a sense of where any of the pieces belong.
Wentworth also offers "extra difficult" cuts with repeated shapes and irregular edges for those who are looking for a particular challenge and have long hours to fill with puzzle pieces...
Wentworth offers a special selection of children puzzles. Of course every child has different abilities, but this rough guide may help you choose the right kind of jigsaw for your young puzzler: > 50 pieces for children aged 3-4 year (pre-school) > 50 - 100 pieces for children aged for 5-7 years (primary) > 100 - 250 pieces and larger for children aged 7-11 years (junior). Please note that Wentworth puzzles are not suitable for children under 3 years of age.
As for the images, Wentworth has a wide range of themes and genres, including seasonal jigsaws, and the option of personal photo jigsaws. The problem is that there are just too many that one wants to have or do!
Find your perfect piece: big or small?
Wentworth offers two different size puzzle pieces. Most puzzles come with the smaller size pieces, except for the 50 (some 75) and 100 piece puzzles. The latter ones are intended for children or adults, who prefer to work with larger pieces as they are easier to handle and the details tend to be more recognizable. The finished image is the same size as the the 250 piece puzzle's (14.1" x 9 3/4").
